Fried, 32, will undergo further testing on his throwing elbow in a few weeks when the team reevaluates his status. He currently leads the MLB with 61.2 innings pitched - no other pitcher has more than 60.
After a strong start to the 2026 season that included back-to-back shutouts in his first two starts, Fried has been having a rough go at it recently.
The vet has given up 11 runs in the past three starts, failing to go any further than six full innings. He was pulled after just three in his latest start on May 13th against the Baltimore Orioles, in which he gave up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts - a season low - and a walk.
The three-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glover has a 3.21 earned run average on the season with a 4-3 record - one year removed from leading the league in wins with 19.
His current 2.63 strikeouts-to-balls ratio is the same number as when he finished fifth in Cy Young voting after the 2020 season. Meanwhile, his 0.1 home runs per nine innings remains the best in baseball.
