"With the transfer of Argentinian starlet Maher Carrizo completed, Ajax are zeroed in on their last target of the January transfer window - a holding midfielder.

"Bids for NEC's Kodai Sano were rejected, while veterans Fred and Wataru Endo stayed put in Istanbul and Liverpool. Ajax director Marijn Beuker already revealed that the club will look to loan an experienced midfielder, making the last couple of hours extra tense in Amsterdam.

"It's calmer elsewhere in the Eredivisie. PSV are not working on any players, and with Fulham's latest bid for Ricardo Pepi rejected, no players are set to leave Eindhoven either. Even Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been edited next to Eindhoven landmarks after expressing his dismay about the Saudi Pro League, will not move to the Dutch champions.
