Griekspoor played a torrid Asian swing, with his tournament bids in Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai all ending in the first round. However, in Brussels' indoor tournament, Griekspoor found his groove, beating Max Schoenhaus and Mariano Navone in the opening rounds.
Against Jiri Lehecka, the tournament's second seed, Griekspoor got off to a strong start, breaking the Czech world No. 12 to go up 2-0 in games, but faltered soon after, as Lehecka converted two of his three break points to take a 5-3 lead. The Dutchman couldn't turn the tide and conceded the opening set after winning just 56% of his service points.
The second set was hard-fought, with both players going neck and neck until the final game, which Griekspoor swayed to his advantage to seal the set, much to Lehecka's chagrin.
Griekspoor showcased a strong defensive game in the decisive third set, keeping Lehecka from turning the set on its head early by fending off four break points at 2-1 and 3-2. Instead, Griekspoor took a 4-2 lead and massively improved his serve in the process, eventually clinching the match on his second match point with a roar of relief.
In his second semifinal of the year, following his final seed in Abu Dhabi, Griekspoor will face third seed Francisco Cerundolo on Saturday, October 24th, at 16.00 CEST.
