Hosts Chile opened their U20 World Cup in style, Manchester United had another day to forget, and Julian Alvarez was the undisputed king of the Madrid derby. Flashscore has picked out the best and worst moments of the football weekend just gone!

Winner: Julian Alvarez

Argentinian World Cup winner Julian Alvarez had a dream week: five goals in just four days, including a brace in Atletico Madrid's spectacular 5-2 win over Real Madrid in LaLiga.

His converted free-kick in the derby, in particular, had the fans at the Metropolitano cheering. Coach Diego Simeone praised Alvarez not only for his goals, but above all for his modesty - he is, apparently, "not at all like a world champion."

Losers: Borussia Monchengladbach

A wild 6-4 loss against Frankfurt ruthlessly revealed the issues at the heart of Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend, a team steeped in tradition.

Gladbach were already 5-0 down at the break, for the first time in a match since 2021, and sporting director Roland Virkus was heavily criticised, with fans vociferously calling for his resignation.

Even though coach Eugen Polanski enjoys support, the club are deep in crisis: bottom of the Bundesliga table and with their backs to the wall. Captain Rocco Reitz spoke plainly: "From minute one to 47, it was catastrophic for us."

Winners: Chile's U20s

The talented youngsters from Chile celebrated a last-minute victory against New Zealand to kick off their U20 World Cup campaign over the weekend.

After Lautaro Millan took the lead and Nathan Walker equalised late on, Ian Garguez caused ecstasy at the national stadium in Santiago in the 97th minute.

The 45,000 fans exploded with joy, and coach Nicolas Cordova could hardly be contained. In addition to Garguez, keeper Sebastian Mella, and midfielder Millan were the match winners for the hosts.

Losers: Manchester United

A 3-1 defeat at Brentford plunged the Red Devils even deeper into crisis on Saturday. Two goals conceded from Igor Thiago, a missed penalty from Bruno Fernandes, and defensive chaos dashed any hopes of improvement.

Coach Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure, with numerous experts openly questioning his future.

United appear unimaginative, vulnerable and are still in a dangerous downward spiral, the end of which is currently not in sight.

Winner: Can Uzun

At just 19 years of age, Can Uzun directs Eintracht Frankfurt's play. In the 6-4 win over Gladbach, he shone with a dream goal and a remarkable assist. He has already scored five times in the Bundesliga this season.

Coach Dino Toppmoller raves about his playmaker: "He remains hungry, he's keen." Uzun appears liberated, technically brilliant and has quickly developed into Frankfurt's new difference-maker. A star in the making!

Loser: Maxime Esteve

For Burnley defender Maxime Esteve, the trip to Manchester City was a personal disaster. He contributed two own goals in the damning 5-1 defeat, becoming only the sixth player in Premier League history to do so.

Although the inevitable Erling Haaland also scored twice, Esteve involuntarily went down in the statistics as the main protagonist of the game. It was an evening that the 23-year-old will probably never forget.

Winners: Mjallby AIF

In Sweden, Mjallby AIF are on course to win the first league title in the club's history. Despite a red card, the team fought their way to a 1-0 victory at Brommapojkarna.

The hero of the day for the team from the village of just 813 souls was Herman Johansson, who scored the decisive goal while a man down.

With an eleven-point lead over Hammarby, Mjallby can clinch the title in the next round.

Loser: Jeremie Frimpong

Flying Dutch wing-back Jeremie Frimping moved to Anfield in the summer for 40 million euros, but things have not worked out so far.

In the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, Frimpong played a decisive role in the defeat in all the wrong ways: 10 losses of the ball, four out of five tackles lost and completely overwhelmed defensively.

Coach Arne Slot even implied that he was indirectly to blame for the late goal conceded. Frimpong still has time to adapt, but the ex-Leverkusen man has not yet arrived in England in the way many expected.
