After West Ham's late loss at the London Stadium to Arsenal, the Gunners' North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, now know that a win against Leeds United on Monday night would really put them in the box seat to stay in the Premier League for another season.

Currently one point ahead of the Hammers, if the Lilywhites were to gain all three on Monday, it would require the Irons to win both of their final two matches against Newcastle United and Leeds, and Spurs to lose both of theirs against Chelsea and Everton, for the East Londoners to stay up.

Recent history favours Tottenham

Recent history is certainly on the Lilywhites' side, given that they've won eight of the last nine fixtures against Leeds, including the last five in a row.

Further, after going unbeaten in four away games against Spurs between 1997 and 2001 (W3, D1), Leeds have lost on their last six visits to N17.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are looking to win three games in a row for the first time since February 2025, after their recent wins over Wolves and Aston Villa gave Roberto De Zerbi and his squad hope of avoiding the drop down into the Championship.

They will be aware that only six teams have picked up more points than the visitors since the beginning of December, and only Man City, Man United and Bournemouth have lost fewer than Leeds' four games from then until now.

10 defeats at home in 2025/26

No team has won fewer points at home than Tottenham, and 10 defeats at home in consecutive seasons is a truly awful stat.

Lose one more game, either against Leeds or Everton, and Spurs will have equalled their all-time record of 11 home losses in a season, which was set during the 1991/92 season.

The Yorkshiremen will be confident of getting at least a point, as they're unbeaten in the last six league games, three of which they've won, and three have been drawn.

They've also scored three or more goals in eight games already this season, which is the most by a team promoted into the Premier League since Leeds themselves won 10 under Marcelo Bielsa in the 2020/21 campaign.

Richarlison's importance can't be understated

They'll be up against a rejuvenated Tottenham team who, in the short space of four games under De Zerbi, have been somewhat transformed.

In those matches, Spurs have won back possession in the final third on 5.3 occasions per game, which is more than both Thomas Frank (3.7) and Igor Tudor (3.8) managed during their time in charge.

They'll need Richarlison to continue to be on song, with his goals having been vital to the club in what's been a very disappointing season for all concerned.

On average, the Brazilian has found the net in the Premier League once every 109 minutes, and of players that have played over 3,000 minutes this season, only Erling Haaland, Mo Salah and Alexander Isak have a better ratio.

He's also led Spurs' output in terms of total shots on goal (52), and shots on target (23).

Calvert-Lewin the go-to guy for Leeds

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been the go-to guy for Leeds when they've needed a big goal, and he hasn't disappointed either.

12 goals, 69 total shots and 31 shots on target are all best-in-class as far as the all whites are concerned.

Leeds also has another in-form goalscorer in Noah Okafor. Of those players who have played at least 200 minutes since the start of February, his six goals in 408 minutes (one every 68 minutes) can't be topped by anyone else from either side; however, he's been ruled out of this one.

Goals are almost guaranteed too, given that at least three have been scored in the last six league meetings, which included an epic 4-3 Tottenham win in North London back in 2022.

The opening goal is vital

Things are looking a bit better for the hosts on the injury front, though they still have eight players missing: Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Mo Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Guglielmo Vicario.

Leeds will be without Ilia Gruev, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Okafor, whilst Pascal Struijk faces a late fitness test to determine his availability.

In terms of when goals might be scored in this game, the hosts have let in the most (19) in the 15 minutes leading into half-time, whilst the visitors have shipped 15 in the final quarter hour of the match.

To put into perspective how important the first goal will be in this game, both teams have identical records when going behind: W9, D3, L3.

Let the fun and games begin...
