Goals galore expected in a classic London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham

If Enzo Maresca truly is under pressure at Chelsea, then a Saturday evening trip to Spurs might be just what the doctor ordered.

That's because the Blues have won five of their six Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium - more than any other away side - scoring four on both of their last two visits.

Chelsea have found their feet away from Stamford Bridge

They've also won four of their last seven away league matches against all opponents after not managing three points on the road in their eight previous attempts.

The hosts have only won once in 13 top-flight matches against the West Londoners too, losing 10 and drawing twice.

Four of those reverses have come in the most recent games, with Spurs not having tasted victory against their London rivals since February 2023.

Given that home form has been a problem for Thomas Frank's squad this season, when better to stop the rot than against one of your fiercest local rivals.

The 17 points that Spurs have accrued see them in third place in the table ahead of the match, however, it's worth pointing out that 13 of those points have been won away from home.

Only Burnley have been beaten at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2025/26, with the only other point earned there by the hosts coming in a 1-1 draw against bottom-of-the-table, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham's upturn under Frank

Frank's five wins from nine league matches is as many as Ange Postecoglou managed in his last 26 games at the club, so in that respect there's been a huge upturn in fortunes, though in order not to fall away again as the season progresses, home wins need to be put on the board.

The Dane has actually only lost two of eight EPL matches against Chelsea, winning three and drawing three whilst manager of Brentford. Intriguingly, the wins all came at Stamford Bridge, with his home record against the Blues amounting to three draws and a loss.

Though it's unlikely, if Spurs needed any further motivation to give everything and ensure the three points are theirs, they would finish the day in second place, with Bournemouth not playing until Sunday against Man City.

Assuming the Cherries are beaten at the Etihad Stadium, that would leave only North London rivals, Arsenal, above Tottenham at the end of this round of fixtures.

Maresca under pressure?

Chelsea's recent 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge to Sunderland meant a third defeat in their last five league games, sending the West Londoners down to ninth in the English top-flight and putting the spotlight squarely on Maresca who, just a few months earlier, had taken his side to Club World Cup glory.

Prior to those five matches, they'd only lost two in their previous 16 Premier League encounters, winning 10 and drawing four.

Two of those victories were away from home, 5-1 against West Ham and 3-0 against Nottingham Forest, both of whom are currently in the relegation zone.

Tottenham will likely present a much tougher test, and Frank has the North Londoners finding more than one way to win football matches.

For example, the five goals that Spurs have scored from corners this season is only bettered by Chelsea (six) and Arsenal (seven), suggesting more of a reliance from set-pieces if things elsewhere on the pitch aren't working as the Lilywhites would like.

Goals guaranteed in this fixture

Goals are certainly guaranteed in this fixture because aside from the last meeting between the sides in April 2025, a 1-0 win for the Blues, at least two goals have been scored in the previous five head-to-head clashes.

Not to mention that with 17 league goals apiece this season, they're both tied in first place (along with Man City) for the most scored so far.

Both sides also have a healthy shot conversion rate with Spurs' 22% and Chelsea's 23% putting them second and third in the league in this respect.

Despite their recent slump, Maresca's squad find themselves second for shots on target (45), passes (4829) and pass completion (87%) too, suggesting that the hosts are going to have to put their foot on the ball and disrupt the visitors' flow if they want to get anything out of the game.

Chelsea have two midfielders - Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo - as their top scorers this season with three goals apiece, the same output as Tottenham's main men in terms of goals, Richarlison and Micky van de Ven.

Both Richarlison and Fernandez have also had the most total shots at goal and shots on target for their respective sides.

Tottenham decimated by injuries

In terms of injuries, the hosts are still suffering from being without a number of guaranteed starters.

Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies, and Radu Dragusin are out, whilst Wilson Odobert could return.

Dario Assugo, Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill are long-term injury absentees for Chelsea, and this game comes too early for Cole Palmer to make a return.
