Sunday afternoon sees one of the most intense Premier League rivalries once again take centre stage, as Liverpool host Man Utd.

When these two English top-flight behemoths collide fireworks are almost always guaranteed, and this weekend's fixture is likely to be no different.

Red Devils' decent record against Liverpool since 7-0 drubbing

Since their 7-0 drubbing at Anfield back in March 2023, the Red Devils have held their own on Liverpool's patch, coming away with two draws: 0-0 in December 2023 and 2-2 in January 2025.

Jurgen Klopp's side were also beaten in the FA Cup at Old Trafford (4-3 in March 2024) and were held 2-2 there a month later, with the only Liverpool win (3-0) in the last five fixtures coming under Arne Slot at the Theatre of Dreams in September 2024.

For Ruben Amorim, he might consider that this fixture comes at the best possible time for his under-pressure outfit.

That's because Liverpool lost their last three matches in all competitions prior to the international break and have come under fire themselves for the way in which they've given up leads in games this season, even if they've then gone on to ultimately win them.

Indeed, Liverpool have kept just two clean sheets in their last 16 matches, and on four occasions already this season they've conceded twice, so there might well be goals to be had for the visitors.

Two wins in the last three games for the Red Devils may give their supporters hope of a mini revival too, but United are going to have to be at their very best to improve upon their current 10th position in the table.

Liverpool have lost only two of last 53 home games

They'll certainly need to be more secure defensively having only kept a clean sheet in one of their last six matches.

Amorim will also understand, however, that the Reds have only lost two of their last 53 home league matches (W41, D10), and that his United side haven't won away in their last eight Premier League fixtures (D2, L6), making a win for United in Liverpool's backyard a very tall order indeed.

Furthermore, the hosts have lost only one of the last 14 league games between the sides (W7, D6) and are unbeaten in nine against United at Anfield (W4, D5).

If they could avoid defeat again on Sunday, Liverpool will become only the second team in Premier League history to avoid defeat in 10 or more consecutive home games against United.

In Mo Salah, the Reds have a player with 13 goals and 19 total goal involvements against United, and no one in Premier League history has more.

Roared on by a partisan home support, the Egyptian King will be looking to extend that particular record, and his abilities in and around the box might see Amorim revert to a back four rather than only having Matthijs de Ligt centrally to deal with whatever comes United's way.

United will look to talisman Bruno Fernandes

United will, as always, look to captain Bruno Fernandes to swing the game in their favour.

The Portuguese's two goals match Salah's output in the league this season, whilst the 19 chances he's created and 423 passes made are both the most in the Red Devils squad in 2025/26.

Intriguingly, United as a team have had the most shots of anyone in the English top-flight in the current campaign (110), and are the team with the second most on target (34).

If they're able to bring that excellence to bear at Anfield, it could well put the cat amongst the pigeons as far as the hosts are concerned.

One note of caution regarding the above is that they're only the 18th best in terms of their shot conversion (11%), which more than hints at one of their major issues.

Liverpool have made the third most passes in the Premier League in 25/26 (3679), and moving United around the pitch whilst keeping possession would seem to be the most likely way of working for Slot and his squad on the day.

Reds should have Gravenbech and Konate

In terms of goals scored and conceded, the Reds are both at their most vulnerable and their most potent in the final 15 minutes of matches, whilst United tend to score fairly evenly from minute one to the hour mark, whilst conceding the most in the 15 minutes directly after the hour.

Given that it's been at least 14 matches since either side have been involved in a goalless draw too, there's a virtual guarantee of goals in this Super Sunday clash.

If Liverpool score first this season they've gone on to win on every occasion, whilst on the flip side, should United concede first they've ended up losing every match.

In terms of injuries, the hosts should have Ryan Gravenberch fit and firing in midfield after being substituted at half-time in the Netherlands' most recent game, whilst this clash comes too quickly for Alisson Becker.

Ibrahima Konate's thigh injury looks to have healed just in time, too, whilst United could welcome back Noussair Mazraoui as they attempt to spring a surprise.
