Athletic Club 2-0 Rangers
6 - Athletic Club are back in a European semi-final. Thirteen years on from their last appearance in the last four of the Europa League, the Spaniards have returned. More importantly, they are just two games away from playing a continental final in their own stadium. That would bode well for them, seeing they have won all six of their home matches in the UEL this term. Of the 12 sides left in Europa across the three competitions, the Basque club are the only ones with a perfect record at home.
15 - It is a quarter-final exit for Rangers, who were the only club in this round not to have scored across the two legs. Still, the Scots can take pride in what was another lengthy run in the Europa League, a competition they have enjoyed much success in recent years. However, their defeat in Spain on Thursday was their 15th versus LaLiga opposition. Only German clubs have had more success against the Gers, with a combined 20 wins.
Eintracht Frankfurt 0-1 Tottenham
4 - The road ends at the final eight for Eintracht Frankfurt, who along with Rangers, were the only ones who could not score in their home leg. Die Adler, who impressed in the league phase, could not find their way through the Spurs back-line in the second leg. The last four times Frankfurt have been eliminated from Europe in a two-legged tie, they lost the home leg. The last time they advanced still advanced despite falling at home came in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup first round against Dynamo Moskva.
9 - Tottenham will be in a continental semi-final six years on from their run to the Champions League final. A Dominic Solanke penalty just before the half decided the tie. Now they are three games away from salvaging what has been a disappointing domestic campaign. In the meantime, Spurs can celebrate maintaining a clean sheet in a UEL away game for the first time in nine years. The previous occasion they did so was in the 2016/17 season at Qarabag during the group phase.
Lazio 3-1 Bodo/Glimt
26 - Lazio could not fully complete the comeback, despite forcing extra time at the death. The Biancocelesti even led in the penalty shootout, but squandered that as well. Despite being the heavy favourites before a ball was kicked in this tie, the side who topped the league phase see a wonderful chance pass them up. Lazio had 26 shots in normal time, the most they have had in a UEL match this season. Including extra time, they ended up with 32 attempts on goal.
1 - Several years of impressive European performances have led Bodo/Glimt to the point where they enjoy a maiden semi-final run. The side from the Arctic Circle held their nerve when it mattered most, and things could even get better for them. It has been an incredible run for Bodo, and it could get better for them. In the meantime, they can take pride in being the first Norwegian team to make it this far in a UEFA club competition.
Manchester United 5-4 Olympique Lyon
14 - What a match in Manchester! Fans witnessed an extra time period for the ages as Manchester United pulled off what can only be described as a miracle. For the fourth time in their last five forays in the Europa League, the Red Devils have at least made the semi-finals. They are back there again, and are now hunting for a second UEL trophy.
United are still unbeaten in Europe this term, the only team who can say that. As such, it is the first time in 14 years that United have gone 12 unbeaten in the same European campaign. Funny enough, the last two times they have done so, in 2008/09 and 2010/11, they went on to lose the UCL final to Barcelona.
33 - What a collapse from Lyon towards the end. Despite going two goals up while down a man, the French outfit could not even hold on for a penalty shootout. It will be seen as utter heartbreak for l'OL, who looked quite good throughout the Europa League this term. Thursday was the 33rd time that the club have scored four or more goals in a continental tie. Unsurprisingly, it was the first time in such a scenario that they did not end up as the winners of the match.
