The 20-year-old Lanquetin, who plays for Dutch side ADO Den Haag on loan from Liga Portugal club Estoril, received a three-year prison sentence, with two years suspended, for causing aggravated involuntary injury and driving without a license or insurance. Lanquetin's driver's license was also suspended for five years and the Frenchman has to compensate the victims of the incident.
On October 9th, 2023, Lanquetin was driving his parents' car, with a friend next to him, when he hit another car at 140 kph near Le Fayel, a town over 50 kilometres outside of Paris. The car Lanquetin hit ended up on the wrong side of the highway, where another collision took place.
According to French news outlet Oise Hebdo, Farid Baho, who drove the car that crashed into the vehicle Lanquetin hit, suffered severe quadriplegia and significant neurological after-effects, which will keep him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

In the Compiègne High Court, Lanquetin admitted to driving without a driver's license after leaving a party outside of Paris. Furthermore, Lanquetin, who was 18 at the time of the accident, was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0,30 g/l and tested positive for cannabis use, as well as being in possession of nitrous oxide, also known as 'laughing gas'.
The prosecution, who said that the events "were not accidental but resulted from objectively irresponsible behaviour", found Lanquetin guilty of driving without a license, excessive speed, alcohol consumption and the presence of cannabis in an enclosed space, absence of subsequent awareness, and causing dramatic and irreversible physical consequences.
Lanquetin and his friend, who had a driver's license but didn't drive the car, were on their way to the French capital when they caused the accident. "I was more confident in my abilities," Lanquetin said in defence of his decision to drive the car.
Placed on leave by ADO
ADO Den Haag, the club where Lanquetin spent the last four months on loan from Estoril, announced in a statement on Tuesday that they had placed Lanquetin on leave "following recent reports of an incident in France in 2023" and would terminate the loan deal. The club stated that they were unaware of the incident or the court case prior to bringing in Lanquetin.
Estoril have not commented on Lanquetin's court case at the time of publishing.
