Ilves 3-1 Differdange (Ilves win 3-1 on aggregate)
It was all to play for in Tampere after Ilves left Luxembourg with a goalless draw in the first leg, but when the breakthrough finally came in the last minute of the first half, it was Differdange who went in front, courtesy of Sebastien Thill.
Thill once scored a winner at the Santiago Bernabeu for Sheriff Tiraspol, but there would be no hanging on in Europe for his side this time, as Yiandro Raap levelled before the hour mark and Jardell Kanga put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot with a quarter of the match to play.
Tempers then boiled over as Raap was sent off, as were the visitors' Gustavo Vintecinco and Juan Bedouret, and it was the 10 men who wrapped up the tie against the nine 15 minutes from time when Kanga added a second assist, teeing up Roope Riski.
Ilves will play Stjarnan of Iceland in the second qualifying round, with the first leg away on 23rd July before the second leg at home on 30th July.
Inter Turku 2-1 FK Sarajevo (Inter Turku win 3-2 on aggregate)
Inter Turku held on for over 80 minutes before conceding a late equaliser in the Bosnian capital a week earlier, and things were going from bad to worse back at home when Francis Kyeremeh put Sarajevo in front midway through the first half.
But just as he did in the away leg, Alie Conteh got FC Inter on the board, levelling the match and the tie with a 58th-minute strike. This time, the hosts would not rest on their laurels, and three minutes from time, Prosper Ahiabu teeds up Clinton Jephta to put the Turku side ahead and through to the next round.
A tough trip awaits one of the Veikkausliiga's best performers this season, as they go to Istanbul Basaksehir for the first leg of the second qualifying round on 23rd July, before heading back to Turku on 30th July.
