The Brewers went into the game seeking to overturn a 1-0 deficit suffered in the first leg in Nairobi a fortnight ago. However, it was Singida who benefitted from the draw as they qualified on a 2-1 aggregate win.
Tusker knew they were facing a tall order and found themselves trailing again in the 67th minute when Singida broke the deadlock.
Victor Mbaoma equalised for Tusker after 81 minutes but that was not enough to save the Kenyans from an early exit.
Tusker will now shift their focus to the domestic competitions.
For Singida, they are making their second successive appearance in the group stage of the competition, and will now look to better the appearance that saw them trailing their group with just one win.
Al Ahly book group stage spot
Egyptian giants Al Ahly secured a 6-1 aggregate win to eliminate Uganda’s Kitara FC.
Kitara, who lost the first leg 2-1 in Hoima last weekend, needed a strong performance at Cairo International Stadium to keep their continental hopes alive but conceded twice in each half as Al Ahly secured their place in the group stage.
Hussein El Shahat opened the scoring in the 38th minute after capitalising on a goalkeeping mistake by Joel Mutakubwa to lob the Kitara custodian.
Mohamed Magdi Afsha doubled the lead a minute before half-time, finishing from close and leaving Kitara with a difficult task in the second half.
El Shahat struck again in the 52nd minute, unleashing a powerful right-footed effort from inside the box to make it 3-0.
Taher completed the scoring with a close-range header after connecting with substitute Ahmed Eid’s cross, sealing Al Ahly’s 4-0 victory and a 6-1 aggregate victory.
Togolese ASKO de Kara achieved a historic qualification to the Group Stage for the first time in their history, beating Mali’s AS Diarra 1-0 at Kegue Stadium in Lome, to qualify on away goals rule after a 3-3 aggregate draw.
Having lost the first leg 3-2 last weekend in Bamako, ASKO scored the game’s lone goal six minutes into first-half injury time, and they kept the lead to achieve a historic qualification.
Tanzania qualify four teams
In the CAF Champions League, Simba SC of Tanzania sealed their place in the group stage on a 9-1 aggregate win against Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto.
Simba won the first leg 6-1 before completing their qualification with a 3-0 outcome on Sunday. Second-half goals from Anicet Oura, Elie Mpanzu and Matlala Makgalwa proved too good for 15 de Agosto.
Following Simba’s success, Tanzania reached a significant milestone in African club competitions by successfully advancing all four of its representatives to the group stage of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) tournaments for the 2026/27 season.
Apart from Simba, Young Africans will also represent Tanzania in the Champions League, while Azam FC and Singida Black Stars will represent the country in the Confederation Cup.
This achievement ensured that Tanzania has four teams at this stage, providing these clubs with the opportunity to pursue further success in international competitions and enhancing the competitiveness of Tanzanian football on the African continent.
All eyes will now be on the group stage, where Simba, Yanga, Azam, and Singida Black Stars will face other African clubs as they compete to advance further in the tournament.
In a shocking result, TP Mazembe were eliminated after suffering a 1-0 defeat (2-1 on aggregate) against Tunisia’s Club Africain on Sunday, while Sudanese giants Al Hilal defeated Ethiopia’s Sidama Bunna to reach the next round.
