There are also important games at the foot of the table, where one team could be cut adrift.
Here are the talking points from the weekend action.

Pirates sailing clear?
Pirates host Siwelele at Orlando Stadium on Saturday in a fixture they will expect to win, but against a side that are still looking over their shoulders at the relegation mix.
Siwelele are four points clear of the relegation play-off place, but also just two points off the top eight, so anything is still possible for them this campaign.
Pirates could go three points clear of Sundowns at the top and also boost their goal difference with a big win, something that may be important come the end of the campaign.
They are seeking a fourth league win in a row, having rediscovered their form after a dip, while Siwelele are unbeaten in seven games but have drawn six of those (W1).
The teams have already met twice this season in league and cup competition, with Pirates winning both 1-0. Their October meeting was notable for the winner, scored three minutes from the end by Mbekezeli Mbokazi, a screamer from 40 yards.
Siwelele have scored just 10 goals in 19 games this campaign, the worst record in the top flight.

Chiefs host in-form Durban City
Kaizer Chiefs have lost their last four games in a row and five of their last six (W1) as their season implodes, going from title challengers to desperately trying to stay in the hunt for third place and CAF Confederation Cup football next season.
They have dropped to sixth but are only three points off Sekhukhune United in third and have two games in hand, but at the moment they do not look like winning them.
Sunday’s opponents, Durban City, are unbeaten in six games (W2 D4) and have a single loss in nine (W4 D4), form that has seen them earn a Nedbank Cup semi-final place.
They have a stubborn defence and Chiefs a blunt attack, so perhaps this has 0-0 written all over it.
No team in the top eight has scored fewer than Chiefs’ 16 goals, though conversely only the top two have conceded fewer than their 12.
Chiefs have never lost five games in a row in the club’s history.

Battle for top eight
It is eighth against ninth as TS Galaxy travel to Stellenbosch FC on Friday night, with both clubs pushing for an MTN8 qualification place.
The teams above them have opened up a little bit of a gap, so it could come down to these two and perhaps Polokwane City in the battle for two remaining spaces in the lucrative knockout competition early in the 2026/27 campaign.
Stellenbosch have improved in the league under Gavin Hunt and have taken 11 points from the last 15 to move away from the relegation zone, though they never looked like genuine contenders for the drop.
Galaxy’s form has fluctuated wildly, with five defeats in a row in the Betway Premiership, but they have also reached the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, including knocking out Sundowns.
Galaxy have won only one of their 16 previous meetings with Stellies, which came earlier this campaign in a 2-0 home success. Their visits to the Cape Winelands have resulted in five defeats and three draws.
Desperate Magesi
There is a battle at the bottom of the league as a desperate Magesi FC host Chippa United on Saturday.
Magesi are already five points adrift at the foot of the table and are six points behind Chippa. If the latter win, then it is hard to see Magesi catching the Eastern Cape side this term, limiting their chances of survival.
Magesi are winless in their last 11 games, dating back to October (D5 L6), when they had a mini purple patch with wins over AmaZulu and Galaxy.
Their issues are obvious: they have scored only 11 goals in 19 games this campaign, second only to Siwelele. Their 26 goals conceded is the second worst, behind only Orbit College’s 35.
Chippa have been better of late but are coming off a 3-1 home loss to fellow strugglers Marumo Gallants, where they took the lead but capitulated in the second half.
The reverse fixture this season ended 0-0, with Chippa winning both clashes in the last campaign.
Usuthu need to get back on track
AmaZulu’s poor recent form saw them stunned in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals by second-tier Casric Stars, but they are still on course for third place in the league if they can start picking up wins again.
Ahead of the visit of Richards Bay on Saturday, Usuthu are only two points behind Sekhukhune, so they could climb to third place with a win.
Richards Bay are one of those looking to break into the top eight, so victory means plenty to them too.
AmaZulu are winless in four games (D1 L3) since they beat Richards Bay 1-0 away in the Nedbank Cup last month.
Past meetings between the sides have been fairly even, with three wins each and two draws, while at Usuthu there has been a win apiece and a draw.
