Bafana Bafana take on Cameroon in their Round of 16 clash at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat on Sunday, with plenty of threats in the Indomitable Lions side for coach Hugo Broos to assess.

Cameroon are a talented group coached by David Pagou, under the watchful eye of federation president Samuel Eto’o, and will provide a stern test for Bafana.

Here are five dangermen to watch out for in the game.

Carlos Baleba

The industrious midfielder keeps Cameroon on the front foot with his ability to break up attacks, shield the back four and get them moving forward quickly on the counter-attack. At just 21, he is a huge talent and the feeling is he will not be at current Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion much longer, with several bigger clubs already eyeing him. He has already displayed his qualities at this Cup of Nations.

Karl Etta Eyong

The 22-year-old forward scored the winner in the opening victory over Gabon, a continuation of his fine form this season that has seen him score five goals in LaLiga for Levante. He has started just one of Cameroon’s three games and could well be an impact player off the bench, but that does not mean he is any less dangerous. He joined Levante this season from Villarreal, where he netted 19 goals last season for the club’s reserve side. He is a natural finisher.

Christian Kofane

The teenage forward has emerged at German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen this season and looks a real talent, illustrated by his stunning goal in the last game against Mozambique. That was his first for the national team, having made his debut in this competition, but the 19-year-old has two starts and has quickly become an important part of the team. He will be something of an unknown factor for Bafana.

Bryan Mbeumo

The number one threat for Bafana, though the Manchester United winger has just a single assist from his three matches played to date. Still, he provides pace, skill and finishing ability from the wide areas and will have to be marked closely. He will likely be up against Bafana left-back Aubrey Modiba, who has endured a difficult time defensively in Morocco so far, making this a key match-up.

Junior Tchamadeu

Not the first name you might think of, but the right wing-back has been rock solid for Cameroon in the competition so far and will be tasked with keeping Bafana dangerman Oswin Appollis quiet. He picked up yellow cards in Cameroon’s first two games, so missed the win over Mozambique, but should return to bolster the defence. He plays in the English Championship for Stoke City, having been born in London. He is something of a yellow-card magnet, with eight bookings in his last 12 games for club and country but also offers valuable width in attack.
