Amid the drama of the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, it should not be forgotten that it was an outstanding tournament packed with great games and superb goals.

Senegal edged Morocco 1-0 in the decider with one of the goals of the tournament from Pape Gueye, but there were plenty of other strikes that will live long in the memory.

We look at the 11 best from the competition.

Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco) vs Comoros

Arguably the goal of the tournament for its technique and audacity came in the very first game. Morocco held a slender 1–0 lead against Comoros with a little over 15 minutes to go when Anass Salah-Eddine lifted a cross into the box, level with the penalty spot. El Kaabi produced a perfectly executed bicycle kick to double the home side’s advantage.

Elias Achouri (Tunisia) vs Uganda

Tunisia led 1–0 against Uganda in driving rain in Rabat and doubled their advantage on 40 minutes with a superb strike from Achouri. Ali Abdi drove to the byline on the left of the box and his cross wasNick Said met by a sweet side-footed volley from Achouri, drilled into the back of the net. He showed incredible technique to get the goal.

Adil Boulbina (Algeria) vs DR Congo

The Round of 16 clash between Algeria and DR Congo looked to be heading for penalties until Boulbina produced a spectacular strike. He picked up the ball on the left-hand side of the box in the 119th minute, cut inside and unleashed a thunderous shot into the far top corner.

Aamir Yunis Abdallah (Sudan) vs Senegal

Sudan took an early lead in their Round of 16 clash, and what a strike it was. Abdallah was fed on the right side of the box, shifted onto his left foot, worked a shooting angle and steered the ball into the far corner with as much placement as power, leaving Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with no chance.

Lyle Foster (South Africa) vs Angola

The game was locked at 1–1 in Marrakech before a brilliant team goal secured victory for Bafana Bafana. Intricate passing on the edge of the Angola penalty area saw Tshepang Moremi feed Lyle Foster 25 yards from goal, and he curled the ball with excellent precision into the net beyond the despairing dive of Angola goalkeeper Hugo Marques.

Riyad Mahrez (Algeria) vs Sudan

This goal was less about the finish and more about the excellent team build-up. A series of pinpoint passes picked out Hicham Boudaoui in the Sudan box, and his backheel was perfectly weighted for Mahrez to collect the ball, work a shooting opportunity and place his effort through a crowd of Sudanese defenders.

Christian Kofane (Cameroon) vs Mozambique

Another belter, as Kofane scored the winner against Mozambique with a superb strike. The 19-year-old collected the ball 30 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner, the ball thundering in off the crossbar. It was a display of both power and technique.

Ademola Lookman (Nigeria) vs Tanzania

Lookman scored the winner for Nigeria in their opening game against Tanzania with a superb piece of skill. He picked up the ball 30 yards from goal, twisted and turned past his marker to create space and fired an arrowed shot into the net from the edge of the box.

Pape Gueye (Senegal) vs Morocco

The goal that won Senegal the Africa Cup of Nations, and it was a beauty. Four minutes into extra time, the West African side broke forward and when the ball fell to Gueye 35 yards out, he brushed off Achraf Hakimi and struck it sweetly from the edge of the ‘D’ into the top corner. Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou had no chance.

Tawanda Maswanhise (Zimbabwe) vs South Africa

A superb individual goal in a seesaw battle between the Southern African rivals. Maswanhise collected the ball 40 yards from goal, dribbled past two defenders, burst into the box and unleashed a low drive into the bottom corner.

Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco) vs Zambia

El Kaabi scored his second bicycle kick of the competition as Morocco defeated Zambia, though this one came under less pressure than the first. He was unmarked as he latched onto Azzedine Ounahi’s chipped pass into the box, and his acrobatic finish was again executed to perfection.
