Having picked up their first two league wins of the season in their last three matches alone, Fiorentina came into this game flying high, despite sitting second-bottom in Serie A.
The game was very much one-way traffic in the opening quarter, though, with Lazio showing the initiative as they looked to take an early lead. The best opportunity in that spell fell the way of Luca Pellegrini after 17 minutes, but David de Gea showed off his trademark reflexes to claw the ball away from the bottom-right corner.
Following an intense opening 20 minutes that saw them under siege, Fiorentina managed to regain some semblance of control, with the game seeing a 15-minute spell where neither side managed to have a shot on goal.
However, despite the fact that they weren’t under intense pressure from their hosts' attack anymore, La Viola’s attack was showing very little intent of their own, ending the first half without even registering a shot.

The second half was a much different story, as the visitors forced Ivan Provedel into a save just three minutes after the restart, after Robin Gosens found Albert Gudmundsson with a pinpoint cross. The hosts then capitalised on that let-off four minutes later through Danilo Cataldi, who slotted into the bottom-right corner after finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Their lead was short-lived, though, as Fiorentina equalised just a few minutes later, when Gosens drilled across goal to find the bottom-right corner after a peach of a pass from Nicolo Fagioli.
Fiorentina looked the more likely to grab a winner in the dying moments, and they were handed a golden opportunity to do so when they were awarded a penalty after Gudmundsson was brought down by Mario Gila.
The Icelandic forward took the spot-kick himself and swept the ball into the top-left corner. There was another late twist, though, as Lazio were awarded a penalty of their own for a foul on Mattia Zaccagni by Pietro Comuzzo, which Pedro stepped up to slot into the bottom-left corner to rescue a point for the hosts.
