Finland have been knocked out of the women's ice hockey competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics, as one Switzerland goal was enough to settle their Quarter-final in Milan.

It's a disappointing result for Finland, whose only Group A win had come against Switzerland (3-1) just four days ago.

The Finns came into this match without experienced defender Jenni Hiirikoski, but it was their attack that was below par this evening, as they took 40 shots on goal to the Swiss' 14, but they failed to find a way past Andrea Brandli in the Switzerland goal, who completed a remarkable shutout.

The only goal of the game came nearly 15 minutes into the second period, when Alina Muller won a face-off before receiving the puck back courtesy of a neat Rahel Enzler pass through a crowd, then buried her shot past Sanni Ahola.

Late in the third period, the Naisleijonat threw everything at Switzerland, trying to make the most of powerplays and pulling the goaltender, but they failed to make a breakthrough before the buzzer sounded, as the Swiss held on for a surprise 1-0 win.

It's just the third time - after Sochi 2014 - that Finland have failed to make the Semi-finals, as their run of back-to-back bronze medals comes to an end.
