The experienced Rasmus Lauge is ready to play for the Danish national handball team again after being absent since the World Cup final at the beginning of the year.
In February, Lauge became the father of a daughter who was born four months early, and was away from handball for a period.
"It has, of course, been a hard few months for Rasmus and the family. But I am extremely happy that Rasmus still has both the desire and the energy to choose the national team."
"It is great to be able to draw on his qualities with the prospect of an exciting final round at home for the European Championships", says Nikolaj Jacobsen in a press release from the Danish Handball Federation.
34-year-old Lauge is one of 15 familiar faces from the World Cup in the new squad. Mads Hoxer, Lasse Moller, and Marcus Midtgaard are newcomers in the squad.
While the two former are relatively experienced in the national team context, Midtgaard from Skjern Handball has currently only been involved in two A international matches when Denmark met Sweden and Norway in May.
The national team gathers on 27 October and then travels to Trondheim in Norway, where they will face the Netherlands, the Faroe Islands, and the Norwegian hosts in a four-team tournament.
Here is the complete squad:
Goalkeepers: Emil Nielsen og Kevin Moller.
Wingers: Emil Jakobsen, Magnus Landin, Johan Hansen and Niclas Kirkelokke.
Linesmen: Magnus Saugstrup, Lukas Jorgensen, Simon Hald og Emil Bergholt.
Back players: Mathias Gidsel, Mads Hoxer, Simon Pytlick, Rasmus Lauge, Lasse Andersson, Thomas Arnoldsen, Lasse Moller og Marcus Midtgaard.
