Ghana have dropped five places to 70th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking following a difficult start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars were previously ranked 65th but have now lost 25.73 points following defeats to Ivory Coast and The Gambia during the September international window.

Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in Bouaké before losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving them without a point from their opening two Group C matches.

The latest rankings, released on October 7th, were calculated from 338 men's international matches played since the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 19th. The matches included 2027 AFCON qualifiers as well as UEFA and Concacaf Nations League fixtures.

Ghana are still 14th among African nations. Morocco remain the continent's highest-ranked side in seventh place globally, followed by Senegal in 18th and Cote d’Ivoire in 29th. Nigeria have dropped four places to 30th.

The latest setback adds to a difficult period for the Black Stars, who also failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana's poor September results were followed by the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz, who left his position by mutual consent after the two defeats.

The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action in November when they face Somalia in back-to-back AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Somalia are currently ranked 200th in the world.

Ghana will be hoping for improved results in those matches as they look to revive their qualification campaign.
