Ponce, 31, tried to make a play on the ball during an infield hit when his knee buckled, sending him tumbling to the dirt. He gave up just one run on one hit with three strikeouts and a walk through 2.1 innings.
Ponce was carted off the field after not being able to walk off under his own power. No further information on his injury has been given at this time.
This season marked Ponce's first in the majors since 2021 when he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
From 2022 to 2024, Ponce spent time overseas pitching in Japan before he played throughout 2025 in South Korea. Toronto signed Ponce to a three-year, $30 million deal this offseason and was set to be a crucial back-end piece in their starting rotiation.
